Questions answered
Things people often ask.
If your question isn't here, please get in touch — Carol is happy to answer over phone or email before you book.
How many sessions will I need?
Everyone is unique. Most people start to feel better after just one visit. Recent (acute) injuries can often be resolved in one or two visits. Injuries left untreated for months or years take longer — the body has built up layers of compensation that need to be unwound. Many chronic conditions resolve in 3–6 visits.
In all cases, we follow the body's lead. It will tell us what needs to be worked on, and you'll know when it's time to come back.
Am I a good candidate for Bowen?
Anyone committed to their health and willing to do simple things in conjunction with treatment is a good candidate. The "three W's" (Water, Walk, Wait) help your body get the most out of each session.
What should I wear?
Loose, comfortable clothing. Bowen can be done over light clothing — you don't need to undress.
Is Bowen painful?
No. The movements are gentle. Many clients fall asleep during sessions.
How is this different from massage?
Bowen uses precise, gentle moves rather than sustained pressure or kneading. There are also "rest periods" during a session where Carol leaves the room briefly to let your body process — these are an essential part of the technique.
Can I get Bowen if I'm on other treatments?
Yes, but other forms of manipulative therapy (massage, chiropractic, acupuncture, physio, reflexology, energy work) should be avoided for 5 days before and after a Bowen session. Carol will help you schedule.
Is Bowen covered by insurance?
Typically not covered by standard health insurance. However, some extended health benefit plans cover Bowen under registered massage or alternative therapy. Please check with your provider — Carol can supply a receipt suitable for submission.
Do you treat pets?
Carol does not, but recommends Liz Lermitte at Vibrant Pet (vibrantpet.ca, 519-404-7302) for Bowen therapy for animals.
Ready to feel better?
Most clients notice a difference in just one to three sessions. Book a time that works for you.
